Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains confident that Thierry Henry will sign a new deal with Arsenal.

Henry’s current deal has just 18 months left to run and has been linked with a move to Barcelona, but Wenger believes the French striker will stay.

“We have offered him a four-year contract,” Wenger told France Football.

“He is an historic player at the club and one of the best in the world.

“He would become the biggest earner at Arsenal, but I don’t question that.

“I believe he will stay – that is my heart-felt opinion.”

Wenger also repeated his determination to build a side capable of winning the Champions League.

“I want to build the team again and finish the job by winning the Champions League and Henry would get more satisfaction in doing that at this club than anywhere else,” added Wenger.

Wenger believes there is still room for improvement in Henry’s game.

“He can still greatly improve – it all depends on his willing. Thierry still has the desire,” added the French tactician.
