Wigan have agreed a deal to sign Ecuadorian World Cup player Luis Valencia.

Valencia has agreed in principle to join Wigan on a season-long loan with the option of a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan at Recreativo de Huelva and Villarreal have chosen to send him out on loan for another year.

“Antonio is something new for Wigan,” Jewell told the club’s official website

“As with most South Americans, he has skill in abundance and combines it with electric pace and a very high work rate.

“He has played in Europe for a season, and I’m convinced he has the attributes to make a success of The Premiership.

“He is something different and I feel he is going to bring an exciting new dimension to our squad.”
