Real Madrid coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro has admitted that he doesn’t expect Jonathan Woodgate to return to action this season, ending the England’s defender’s World Cup dream.

Injury has restricted Woodgate to just nine appearances this season and unless he plays again this season then he can forget about a place in Sven Goran Eriksson’s squad.

“They are doing a lot of tests and looking at a variety of options,” said Lopez Caro.

“They are looking to see what option will leave him in the best condition.

“I don’t know if he will be ready for this season, they are doing quite a lot of studies and we don’t know how long this will all take.”

Since joining Real Woodgate’s career has been largely spent in the treatment room.
