Richard Wright looks set to join Everton in a deal believed to be worth £4.75 million after Blues’ chairman Bill Kenwright confirmed that talks between the club and player are ‘at an advanced stage’.
Kenwrighttold Everton’s official website: “I can confirm we are at an advanced stage of negotiations with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Richard Wright.”
Everton turned their attention to Wright after failing to agree a fee for their initial target, Derby’s Martin Poom.
Wright, 24, who has been cappped at full international level, was signed by Arsenal 12 months ago for £6 million. The former Ipswich keeper was seenas the logical successor to Highbury incumbent David Seaman but with the England keeper extending his contract at Arsenal, Wright has decided to kick-start his career with a move to Everton.
Wright will join what is becoming an increasingly cosmopolitan Everton side. Manager David Moyes has been busy over the summer, securing several new signings, including Nigerian Joseph Yobo, Chinese duo Li Tie and Li Weifeng and earlier today, the loan signing of Brazilian midfielder Juliano Rodrigo.
