Yaya Toure has confirmed that he he considered joining Arsenal but is happy at Barcelona and would welcome the arrival of his brother Kolo at Camp Nou.

The Ivorian said in September that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger tried to persuade him to sign at Emirates Stadium last summer.

But Yaya Toure told sport-ivoire: “There was a time when my objectives were to join Arsenal Football Club, however now I want to progress at Barcelona.

“Barcelona are the best team and the manager now trusts me 100 per cent.”

Yaya Toure’s brother, Kolo, who has played for Arsenal since 2002, was linked with an exit in January but chose to remain in North London after resolving his differences with Arsene Wenger.

Barca powerhouse Yaya rates Kolo highly and admits he would one day like to play alongside him at Barca.

He said: “Kolo had a tough season, it was at certain times complicated for him. But he is a very intelligent guy and he prefers to face problems instead of running from them.

“We have the same fighting spirit. My brother would fit well in Barcelona, he is a quality defender. Maybe one day we will play in the same team, who knows?”
