Inter coach Alberto Zaccheroni tried to emphasise the positive aspects of his side’s failure to qualify from Group B following last night’s 1-1 draw at Dynamo Kiev.

Zaccheroni was surprisingly upbeat after the game and praised his team’s performance, despite conceding a late goal.

“A positive thing about this was the team’s great performance,’ he said.

‘We played a great match at an incredible pace. We gave very little away to Dynamo and create loads of chances.”

The Italian said this experience has taught his side a lesson and he stated that this result would help the team to blossom.

“We’re working to build a team that always plays its game, regardless of the opponent,” he said.

“We always maintained the initiative and this is a sign of growth. We have to continue on this path.

Captain Javier Zanetti also felt that Inter failing to qualify was harsh.

“We should not be leaving the Champions League after such a bright start,” he said.

“We were simply unlucky. I have to pay respect to Dynamo, who were very disciplined, but I think we were better.”

Dynamo coach Olexiy Mykhaylichenko explained his side’s attacking attitude.

“When Inter took the lead, we had no choice but to attack,” he said.

“We missed three chances in the closing stages. Despite being knocked out, I would not say the European season was disappointing. We just were a bit unlucky.”
