Real Zaragoza have appointed Ander Garitano following the sacking on Monday of Victor Fernandez.
Garitano, a 38-year-old former Zaragoza player, has been working at the club as a youth team coach since the start of the season.
The club’s president Eduardo Bandres has explained his decision to fire Fernandez.
“After the game I met with the members of the board and subsequently with Victor Fernandez,” the president told reporters.
“By mutual agreement we have terminated the contract that he had with Real Zaragoza.
“It is always difficult to deal with a situation like this with any coach, but even more so in the case of Victor Fernandez because of his personal and professional ties with the club.
“We believe that it was a necessary thing to do given the dynamic of the team in the last few days.
“Despite leaving us, Zaragoza will always be his home.”
