Zinedine Zidane is set to be out of action three weeks after picking up a groin strain during France’s World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

The Real Madrid player limped out of France’s win over Republic of Ireland 20 minutes from time and tests have revealed he had suffered a groin strain.

Zidane admits he immediately knew the problem was serious.

“My leg opened and I felt something had happened in my adductor,” he revealed.

“It was more than a strained muscle, there was a muscular break.

“It hurts a great deal and I will not be fit to face Celta Vigo and I am pessimistic about Lyon.”

Real chief Wanderley Luxemburgo admits it is a blow to lose Zidane.

“It is a shame because Zizou was improving,” said the Brazilian.

“He had seemed very happy, with the French team and his club.

“The injury is a blow after a promising start to the season.”
