West Bromwich Albion have signed Switzerland’s World Cup goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuhler.

Zuberbuhler set a new World Cup record in Germany, keeping a clean sheet for 390 minutes as Switzerland became the first ever country to be eliminated from teh finals without conceding a goal.

The 35-year-old was out of contract at Basle and has signed a two-year deal with the Championship side.

“Pascal is a vastly experienced goalkeeper and with Chris Kirkland going out, we needed a replacement,” Robson told the club’s official website.

“We needed another goalkeeper to compete with Tomasz (Kuszczak).

“He is number one with Switzerland and he was rated as one of the top couple of goalkeepers in the World Cup.

“It’s up to Tomasz and him to challenge for a place.”
