Not content with their strikers scoring 180 goals in the calendar year, Barcelona are looking to reinforce their attack in the January transfer window, coach Luis Enrique has confirmed.

The potent trio of Fifa Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suárez have been in prolific form this season but a lack a goalscoring replacement if any of them are injured, is a concern for Barcelona.

Academy graduates Munir el Haddadi and Sandro Ramírez are the only other recognised forwards in the squad, but neither look ready for a place in the Barca starting line-up. .

“Right now our greatest need is to strengthen the attacking line but I would like bring in reinforcements across the board,” Luis Enrique said. “Negotiations are tough in the winter market because nobody wants to let important players go,” added the former Barça and Spain midfielder. “We will try right up until the final day.”

One option for Barça could be to bring back the former Manchester City winger Denis Suárez, who after a successful campaign on loan with Sevilla, has become an integral part of high flying Villarreal this season.

Other than Denis Suárez, Barcelona’s options are limited. Few clubs will be willing to part with first team players at this stage of the season, and those that do will be expecting the reigning Spanish and European champions to pay a premium in compnesation.

After serving an 18-month transfer ban, Barcelona made up for lost time when the ban was finally lifted on Janaury 3, by registering 77 new players to play for the club.
