Match overview: Germany have won their group at each of the last six World Cups. Ghana have made it out of the group stage in both previous World Cups they have qualified for.

Key moment: Introduction of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose when Germany were rocking was a masterstroke by Joachim Low.

Man of the match: Harrison Afful worked tirelessly down the right flank and supplied a wonderful cross for Ghana’s opening goal.

Matter of fact: Miroslav Klose scored his 15th goal to equal Ronaldo’s World Cup goalscoring record. He also became the 3rd player after Pele and Uwe Seeler to score in 4 separate World Cups.

Talking point: Germany are fallible. After demolishing ten-man Portugal, Joachim Low’s side looked the real deal, but this was a reality check. Ghana exposed a defensive vulnerability, and were it for some poor decision making in the final third, would have emerged as deserved winners.
