Cristiano Ronaldo fired a home blank for the first time in 15 months in Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Espanyol.
The Portuguese forward, who is expected to be named FIFA Ballon d’Or World Player of the Year in Zurich tonight, had notched in 17 consecutive league games in front of the Real Madrid fans.
Despite failing to score, Ronaldo remains well clear at the top of this season’s ESM Golden Shoe standings, leading second placed Evgeni Kabaev by 16 points.
Lionel Messi, who opened the scoring for Barcelona in their 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid, has moved up to third place in the standings, a further four points adrift.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette moved in to the top 10 after scoring twice in Lyon’s 3-0 win over Toulouse. The 23-year-old is reported to be a target for Liverpool, and his form this season suggests he would not look out of place in the Premier League.
