PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has indicated he is looking to secure a move to Barcelona.

Barca have been linked with a move for Afellay, 24, and while the Dutch international insists there has been no contact between the clubs, he has made it clear that he would welcome the switch.

“I only know what I read in the newspapers online, but I still don’t know what my future holds because there are many options,” he told Sport. “For now, I don’t think there has been any contact between Barca and PSV.

“It’s a fantastic club – a club everyone knows that plays very attractive football and is the greatest around – but I insist that I don’t know anything yet about my future. All I can do is continue training as usual and playing to the best of my ability for my team, which is still PSV.”

Asked when he would be likely to move should the transfer take place, he said: “That’s a good question.

“For the club, it may be better to do it in January because they could raise money. Then again, it could be better to wait until June because our aim is to win the Eredivisie and the team would play in the Champions League next year, which is a great reward and gives you more money.”

Afellay said that is was “clear” it is time to move on and added: “It’s now time to develop myself further. PSV is my home, but I’m ready to take the next step in my career.”
