UEFA have announced that Valencia captain David Albelda will be banned for two European games following his sending off against Inter last week.

Albelda, 25, was given a straight red card for using foul and abusive language in the firstleg of the Champions League quarter final. Inter won the game 1-0.

He has admitted that he feels lucky that the ban was only for two games.

“It was not the worst thing that could have happened,” he said.

“I was expecting another game on top of it.”

Albelda has confirmed that he will not appeal against the decision.

“It is not worth appealing to UEFA though because you never know what will happen. It is very unlikely they would accept an appeal.”

Internazionale’s Emre Belozoglu, who was sent off in the same game, has been handed a one-match ban for retaliating.
