Arsenal have agreed a fee with Sevilla for defender Sebastien Squillaci, according to the Spanish club.

After rejecting an initial offer from Arsene Wenger for the French international, Sevilla have now reached an agreement with the north London club.

According to reports the clubs have settled o a £5million valuation for the 30-year-old.

The 30-year-old will undergo a medical on Monday, and is likely to sign at the Emirates ahead of the transfer deadline next Tuesday.

A statement on the Sevilla website read: “Defender Sebastien Squillaci is tonight travelling to London to have a medical at Arsenal, the club he will be transferred to after an agreement was reached by the two clubs pending the results of the medical.”

Wenger has been looking to strengthen his defensive options following the departures of William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre.

Former Lyon centre-half Squillaci, who joined Sevilla two years ago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-off against Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for European competition.
