Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has revealed he is interested in recruiting former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Javier Aguirre is currently in charge of Atletico and has led the club to sixth in La Liga so far this season, but Atletico chief Cerezo is determined to see the club competing in the Champions League – hence reports linking Mourinho with a role at Vicente Calderon.

“Jose Mourinho is a great coach and Atletico is interested in big coaches,” Cerezo told A Bola.

Meanwhile, Cerezo said he would like to sign Porto playmaker Ricardo Quaresma to play alongside fellow Portugal international Simao Sabrosa.

He added: “We wanted Simao and Quaresma for this season, but the Porto president asked for a very high price and it was impossible to pay that amount.

“But the assumption to have the two players together remains open.

“Quaresma is very young and can still be an Atletico player.”
