Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja hasconfirmed that he would consider a transfer to Manchester United.

Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to have expressed an interest in the 27-year-old Spanish international, despite Baraja having recently extended his contract with Valencia until 2008.

“There are rumours regarding interest from Manchester United in Baraja but no-one has officially contacted us,” admitted the player’s representative Manuel Garcia Quilon.

“His contract is not due to expire for another five years but he is a very ambitious player and if there was an interesting offer that is good for his sporting career and for the club, he would consider it.”

Baraja would seem an ideal recruit for Sir Alex Ferguson. With doubts being raised over the physical well-being of captain Roy Keane, a holding midfield player, could well be one of the club’s priorities in the transfer market this summer.

Baraja would give Ferguson the opportunty to play Keane as a central defender, a position many believe the Irishman will adopt in the latter stages of his career.
