Chairman Phil Gartside has revealed Bolton hope to open talks with Liverpool about bringing El-Hadji Diouf to the club on a permanent basis.

The Senegal international has been a massive success at The Reebok stadium since signing on loan until the end of the season.

Trotters chairman Gartside said: “I think he wants to stay and we want him to stay. Now it’s a question of trying to get the right financial deal with Liverpool.

“We know what Diouf’s aspirations are and, although he might not get exactly what he wants, we know where we are going.

“But we’ve got to do a financial deal with Liverpool that’s got to suit both clubs and we are going to try to do that this summer.

“When we took him on loan, we were talking about the possibility of keeping him. Now we’ve got to try and find some way of getting a compromise, and we have talked about that.”
