Roma coach Fabio Capello has played down his side’s chances of catching Serie A leaders Milan, despite reducing the gap at the top of the table to two points.

Milan’s 1-1 draw with strugglers Modena allowed second-placed Roma to cut the gap to nine points with a 3-0 victory over Lecce. Roma do have a game in hand but with matches running out, Capello admits his side face an uphill battle if they are to challenge Milan.

“We must take each match as it comes. Milan drew last week as well, but then we lost against Bologna,” he was quoted as saying in Monday’s Corriere dello Sport.

“Milan are keeping up an incredible pace at the top of the division. They deserve first place.

“I’d like to be in Ancelotti’s shoes with a nine-point advantage.”
