Middlesbrough playmaker Juninho remains undecided about his future, although a move to Celtic remains a possibility.

The Brazilian was left out of the Boro squad for the meeting with Newcastle United at the weekend.

Celtic executive director Peter Lawwell said: “He is the kind of name who would excite the fans, but it’s too early to get carried away.

“It won’t necessarily mean the end of the arrivals this summer.”

Juninho would prefer to remain at Middlesbrough, but with Celtic looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the Champions League deadline, a move could still be on the cards.

“We still have a couple of weeks before the deadline, but clearly, the sooner the better,” said Lawwell.

“He is the kind of name who would excite the fans, but it’s too early to get carried away.

“There are many issues to be resolved first and one of them is persuading him to play in Scotland.

“It can be difficult to get people to understand what we are about.

“We have to sell the club to them, because all they hear down south is negative.”
