The China Football Association have confirmed that the start of the 2005 Super League season has been delayed a month because most clubs had not found sponsors.

Out of 14 teams, 12 voted to delay the season’s start to April 2, after 11 clubs complained of difficulties in finding sponsors and said they needed more time.

“Sponsorship difficulties emerged following last season’s disastrous Super League campaign, which was tainted by plummeting game attendance, poor refereeing, threats of game boycotts by clubs, and allegations of corruption, matchfixing and gambling,” Xinhua said.
