England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has dismissed speculation linking him with the vacant Real Madrid coach’s position.

Reports in Spain claim Eriksson was a contender to replace Jose Antonio Camacho, who quit on Monday after just four months in the job. However, Eriksson is adamant that he will be remaining with England.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone from that club. It is not an issue to decide.”

“I have a contract and that’s it,” Eriksson told BBC Sport.

Real midfielder and England skipper David Beckham also played down the reports.

“Sven is a great boss and in the last couple of years he’s been linked with many jobs,” Beckham said.

“But he is England manager and, as far as I know, he will carry on.”

Eriksson’s agent, Athole Still, also denied the claims.

He told the London Evening Standard: “It’s the old, old story. No one has contacted me from Real Madrid or purporting to be from Real Madrid.”
