Atalanta have confirmed the appointment of Giancarlo Finardi as their new coach following the Giovanni Vavassori.
Finardi, a former player at Atalanta, was the club’s youth coach and had been tipped to take over.
Vavassori was sacked following a 1-0 defeat against Perugia this weekend which left the club in the relegation zone, fourth from bottom of Serie A, a point adrift of fifth-bottom Reggina.
Vavassori was in his fourth season in charge of the first team after previously being employed as the club’s youth coach.
In his first season in charge, Vavassori won promotion to Serie A but the club have struggled this season, spending most of the campaign in the relegation zone.
