Flamengo have sacked coach Julio Cesar Leal after only four matches in charge.

Leal was fired following a humiliating 2-1 home defeat in the Carioca championship by Americano.

The club’s vice-president Gerson Biscotto confirmed the decision to sack Leal after the match.

“We’re going to continue with our work but it’s not possible for him to stay with us,” Biscotto told reporters.

“Football is about results.”

Flamengo weent through four coaches last year as they just avoided relegation in the Brazilian championship.

Assistant coach Andrade, who took over on an interim basis three times last year, is expected to be asked to take over again.
