Robbie Fowler’s move to Manchester City which collapsed two weeks ago amid fears over the striker’s fitness, is on the verge of being resurrected, after it was reported that Fowler may be having a rethink.

TheLeeds striker pulled out of a move to Maine Road earlier in January, claiming he felt unwanted by City, after the club insisted on any deal being determined by appearances.

Subsequent events at Elland Road have persuaded the striker to reconsider his options. It is understood that Fowler is concerned about the possible departure of Leeds boss Terry Venables, should the club complete the sale of Jonathan Woodgate to Newcastle.

Moreover, there is a feeling that the only way Leeds can appease Venables and the club’s supporters, not to mention the club’s creditors, would be to retain Woodgate and find an alternative player to sell, hence the suspicion that Fowler is being encouraged to resurrect the Manchester City deal.

Talks are now understood to be ongoing, but it is understood that a deal is not far off, a belief reinforced by Venables’ decision to omit Fowler frrom Leeds’ squad to face Chelsea tonight.
