Brazilian club Gremio have been punished after the daughter of coach Renato Gaucho ‘invaded the pitch’ after the team won a cup semi-final.

Carolina Portaluppi, 22, who is a longstanding Gremio fan, was invited onto the field of play by her father and sat on the bench for the closing stages, before joining the on-field celebrations.

Brazil’s Superior Court of Sporting Justice told the club they must play the final’s second leg away from home. The first leg will take place away from home in Belo Horizonte and the location of the second leg is now unknown.

“Gremio were punished this afternoon, Nov 16, for Carol Portaluppi’s pitch invasion after the Brazilian Cup semi-final match between Gremio and Cruzeiro,” the court said in a statement.

“The tribunal is not judging a father’s love for his daughter but for an act that is not permitted.”

The club were also fined 30,000 real (£6,995), while Gaucho was warned he could face further action.

Gremio, who say they will appeal against the decision, beat Cruzeiro 2-0 on aggregate and will face Atletico Mineiro in the two-legged final later this month.

Portaluppi, who has 488,000 followers on Instagram, was verbally abused on on social media by angry fans after the decision.
