Peruvian striker Jose Paolo Guerrero has signed a two-year contract extension at Bayern Munich that will keep him at the club until 2008.

Guerrero, 21, has scored six goals in nine matches this season and Bayern were keen to ensure he signed a new deal to fend off interest from otehr clubs.

“Paolo has made giant strides and a lot of European clubs were interested in him,” vice-president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted on Thursday.

“That is why we decided to extend his contract.”

Guerrero’s original contract was due to expire in 2006 but the new deal reflects the rapid strides he has made this season.
