Mark Hughes is hopeful that Roque Santa Cruz will become a Blackburn Rovers player over the next few days.

Santa Cruz is discussing a move to Ewood Park after being informed by Bayern Munich that he could leave.

Bayern have confirmed Porto and two English clubs, but Hughes is optimistic that Santa Cruz will join the club.

“We are very hopeful something may happen in that respect,” said the Rovers manager.

“Maybe in the next 24 hours a deal could be concluded if the price is right.”

Santa Cruz would become Hughes’ second striker signing of the summer, following the arrival of Holland Under 21 international Maceo Rigters.

“What we don’t have is a real threat in the air and that is something we are looking to address,” Hughes added.

“Santa Cruz is a young player, an international with a good reputation who is playing at a top European club.”
