Antonio Iriondo has beeen apppointed coach at Rayo Vallecano following the sacking of club sacked Gustavo Benitez.

Benitez had been at the club since January when he replaced Fernando Vazquez.

Iriondo has been put in charge until the end of the season.

“We must renew the team andtry to be self-confident,” Iriondo said.

“We will play nine finals and we can only have victories. We will try to play well and also win. I always try to play attacking football.”

Rayo are three points adrift at the foot of the table after their 1-1 home draw yesterday against Athletic Bilbao.
