Marius Lacatus has resigned as coach of Steaua Bucharest a day after a humiliating defeat in the Romanian league.

“Lacatus went before the boys and told them he was resigning,” the club’s owner Gigi Becali told Gazeta sporturilor.

The club lost 3-0 at home by a FC Brasov, drawing angry comments from fans. The defeat left Steaua 6th in the table on 32 points.

An angry Becali left the stadium before the end of the first half, telling reporters he planned to make changes at the club.

Lacatus, 46, who had been in charge since the end of September, was Steaua’s fourth coach in less than two months.

A former player with the club, he had already coached Steaua twice, between October 2007 and May 2009.
