Paris St Germain captain Claude Makelele has announced he intends to retire at the end of the season.

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder has been an almost ever-present this campaign, taking part in all but three of PSG’s Ligue 1 matches.

“It’s really my last season,” Makelele, 37, said. “My future is behind me. Today it’s my last season, but tomorrow that could change.”

Makelele moved to PSG in the summer of 2008, following five years at Chelsea, where he won-back-to-back Premier League titles. He has also won league titles in France and Spain as well as the 2002 Champions League with Real.
