Milan captain Paolo Maldini has agreed to extend his contract with the European champions that will keep him at the club until at least 2006.
“My contract with Milan runs out in 2005. I haven’t signed yet but there is already an agreement to extend my deal until 2006,” Maldini told the club’s website.
The veteran defender, who will be 36 in June, has been in outstanding form this season for Milan.
His ‘s form has been so goo that there havce been calls for him to reconsider his retirement from international football in time to play in June’s European Championship in Portugal.
However, Maldini has thus far, refused to countenance a return to national team.
“If one day I should decide to return to the national side I will speak directly to (coach Giovanni) Trapattoni and not through the papers,” Maldini said on Thursday.
Maldini is already Italy’s most capped player having played 126 times for his country.
