Serie A leaders Milan were held to a goalless draw by Perugia in their Italian Cup semi-final first leg tie on Thursday.

Milan dominated the early exchanges and should have taken the lead when Jon Dahl Tomasson was found unmarked but the Danish international was denied by Perugia keeper Zeljko Kalac.

Perugia’s best chance of the match came in the second half when striker Fabrizio Miccoli crossed from the left only for midfielder Massimiliano Fusano to fire the ball over the bar.

Despite failing to score, Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was happy with the efforts of his players.

“I’m happy. It’s a good result,” Ancelotti said afterwards.

“What we saw on the pitch was an equal match.”

“We’ve got a quality team. Everyone did theirbit tonight and I’m sure they’ll be able to pull themselves together for the next games,” he said.
