Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic will be out of action for six months after damaging knee ligaments.

The Croatia international has been struggling with knee problems since the start of the season and suffered another setback over the weekend.

He will now travel to the United States to undergo an operation by surgeon Dr Richard Steadman.

“I’m obviously disappointed,” said the Bayern striker. “I was hoping to build on my performance last season.”

Olic’s injury is another setback to coach Louis van Gaal, who is also currently without Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, captain Mark van Bommel and Miroslav Klose.
