Boavista coach Jaime Pacheco has announced that he will be leaving the Portuguese club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The decision ends Pacheco’s five year association with the club, during which Boavista have enjoyed the most successful period in their history, culminating in last year’s remarkable title success. Boavista became only the second team in Portugal outside the traditional ‘big three of Sporting, Porto and Benfica’ to land the title.

This season, though, Boavista have struggled in the league, where they are eighth with three matches remaining, but prospered in the UEFA Cup where they reached the semi-finals before losing to Celtic.

“I am a happy man who is pleased with the job he has done here,’ said Pacheco.

‘I will always be thankful to Boavista and I am sad to think that I will be coming here less in the future – this has been my home for over five years. It’s better that I stop now before I start crying.”

The Boavista president, Joao Loureiro, added: “This is not the end of our friendship. It is impossible to forget what this man has done for this club; wewill always be friends.”
