Robert Pires believes that Thierry Henry has turned into a new player since been appointed captain at Arsenal.

Henry succeeded Patrick Vieira as Arsenal skipper in the summer, and, according to Pires, the captaincy has raised the striker’s game to a new level.

“I think that being captain has changed Thierry (Henry), it has canalised him,” Pires told Le Progres.

“It has made him more peaceful on the pitch.

“This armband has transformed him.

“The coach didn’t give him it by chance, I knew what he did.

“He has became an excellent captain who shows the good example to his players.”
