Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Klaus Toppmoller has revealed that he expects to hold talks with Fulham shortly, over the vacant manager’s position at the struggling Premier League club.

“I haven’t met Fulham but I hope to meet them next week,” said Toppmoller.

“It’s right that I contacted them when it was written in the German papers six or seven weeks ago.

“Fulham are a very good club and it would be very interesting to coach a team in England.”

“I can build a team – it doesn’t matter what club I work at.

“I think young players can be better anyway and I’ve coached young players in the past and they’re big players now.”

Toppmoller, who was sacked by Leverkusen two months ago after a dismal run of results left his team in the relegation zone, claims to have received offers from throughout the continent.

“I’m talking with a lot of clubs in Europe at the moment,” he added.

“I’m in conversation with a lot of sides as they remember the games we played with Bayer Leverkusen last year.”

Fulham announced earlier this week that they would announce the successor to Jean Tigana before the season ends.

Former Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal was interviewed by Fulham last week but Derby’s acting boss George Burley is the bookmakers’ favourite.
