Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has played down any talk of a crisis at the club and remains convinced the club are on course to win the Primera Liga and the Champions League.

“The two big objectives of Real Madrid are still within our reach,” Valdano told Spanish sports daily Marca on Monday.

“I still believe the team is capable of winning both the league and the Champions League.”

Valdan was speaking after a terrible week for Real which had seen them lose the Kings Cup final to Real Zaragoza in the final of the King’s Cup and then go down 4-2 to Athletic Bilbao in Saturday’s league match.

“At the moment there is a disagreeable feeling at the club,” said Valdano.

“It is the first time in the season that we have lost two games in a row, but we still have the same players that got us to the top and the situation is going to change very soon.”

“We made a tremendous effort against Zaragoza and paid the price in the latter stages of the Bilbao game,” he said.

“But the team is in good shape and these are just momentary setbacks.”
