Valencia are adamant that they’re bid to sign Simao Sabrosa from Benfica is still ongoing.

It had been reported that the club had withdrawn from the race to sign the winger after they became disillusioned by the demands of the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Simao flew to Spain to agree personal terms, but no agreement was reached and reports in the Spanish press claimed that Valencia were angry that Mendes was touting his client around other clubs.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira also claimed that the Spaniards had not made the player a derisory offer.

However, Valencia have issued a conciliatory statement in an effort to get the deal up and running.

“Valencia would like to clearly state that, given the recent reports that have been published, that we still maintain a very correct and fluid relationship both with Benfica’s president, Luis Felipe Vieira, and the representative of the player, Jorge Mendes,” read a club statement.

“At this moment we are still negotiating to try and achieve our objective of contracting the Portuguese international footballer Simao Sabrosa.”
