Alessandro Del Piero admits that Juventus face a difficult task overcoming a 1-0 deficit against Deportivo La Coruna, but the Italian international is confident of a better performance in the second leg.

Last night’s 1-0 defeat at Deportivo continued Juve’s recent poor sequence of results and raises questions over their ability to emulate last season’s run to the final.

“We could and should have done much better. If we want to qualify (for the quarter-finals) we’ll have to do much more in the second leg,” Del Piero told the Corriere dello Sport on Thursday.

“We can still turn the contest around.”

To compound their woes, Juve also lost David Trezeguet with a shoulder injury which is expected to keep him out of the return leg. Trezeguet’s replacement, Fabrizio Miccoli, was confident that Juve could overturn the one-goal deficit.

“One-nil was the worst result we could get here, but I believe we can come back,” he said.
