Internazionale are the latest team to be linked with Luis Figo after Liverpool lost interest because of Real Madrid’s insistence that they be paid a transfer fee of £2m.

Spanish daily Marca has reported the interest of Inter president Massimo Moratti in signing Figo after the player’s name came up in recent discussions between Inter and Madrid.

Inter are reported to have offered Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids as part of a possible deal for Figo, but Madrid are well covered in central midfield following the signing of Uruguayan Pablo Garcia as competition for Thomas Gravesen.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that they are unlikely to sign Figo. “It will be very difficult to sign Luis,” he said. “That move is getting more and more complicated and we have told Madrid that we are now looking elsewhere for possibilities in that position.”
