Italy’s bid to host the 2012 European Championship, has been endorsed by the Italian government, officials have confirmed.
“Italy launches its bid for the European Championship with the full support of the Italian government,” Undersecretary Gianni Letta told a joint news conference with Italian Football Association (Federcalcio) chairman Franco Carraro.
Bidding against Italy is Greece, surprise winners of Euro 2004 in Portugal. Poland and Ukraine are also considering a joint bid for the 2012 tournament.
