Therewas pandemonium in South Korea today as a Radio DJ mistakenly announced live on air that Germany had been expelled from the World Cup and that co-hosts South Korea would take their place in the finalagainst Brazil.

The DJ on the SBS Power station said that an unnamed German player had failed a drug test and that Rudi Voller’s team had been disqualified from the competition as a result.

Hysteria quickly spread across the country and the radio station was besieged by callers asking for verification of the story. It later emerged that the DJ had received the information via a text-message and that the story was false.

The radio station issued an apology shortly afterwards. South Korea lost their World Cup semi-final against Germany 1-0 on Tuesday. They will play Turkey in the third place play-off match on Saturday.
