Newcastle United have completed the signing of Spain Under-21 international Jose Enrique from Spanish side Villarreal for £6.3m.
The 21-year-old left-back has agreed a five-year deal.
Enrique said: “I believe very much in Sam Allardyce and believe they’re going to be one of the top teams.”
Newcatle manager Allardyce is also reportedly keen to sign 31-year-old Serbian defender Ivica Dragutinovic from Seville.
Dragutinovic was part of the Serbia defence that conceded just one goal in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup.
