Fiorentina have sacked their coach, Emiliano Mondonico, just seven games into the Serie A season.

Mondonico has endured a fractious relationship with the club’s board and supportyers, culminating in him demanding the board back him or sack him, following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Udinese.

However, with the club just three points off the bottom, sporting director Fabrizio Lucchesi has decided to call Mondonico’s bluff.

“Fiorentina with a big surprise, took note of Emiliano Mondonico’s considerations after Sunday’s match, of which we don’t agree with the contents,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

”His job has never been put under discussion.

”But Fiorentina are obliged, for respect to the project’s importance, to the city, to the players and the supporters, to consider the personal difficulties underlined by Emiliano Mondonico in continuing his job.

”For this reason, in view of our next engagements, the club assign immediately the technical guidance of the team to Sergio Buso.”

Mondonico took over at Fiorentina midway through last season and guided the team to promotion from Serie B.
