Bolton Wanderers forward El Hadji Diouf has been fined £500 after admitting he spat at a fan during a match at Middlesbrough.
The Senegal forward, who was also ordered to pay £500 pounds, admitted a charge of disorderly conduct following the incident in Bolton’s 1-1 Premier League draw at the Riverside in November of last season.
Diouf spat after drinking from a plastic bottle but claimed he did not intend to hit anyone.
“He admitted that what he did was reckless, but he didn’t intentionally hit the person – he was actually spitting towards a perspex screen,” a Crown Prosecution Service spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
