Bolton Wanderers’s Senegal striker El-Hadji Diouf has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted his wife Valerie at the weekend.
The 25-year-old forward was later released on bail.
A Greater Manchester Police statement said: “At 6.45am on Sunday 5th November, police were called to an address in Bolton following reports of an assault.
“Officers attended and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a Section 47 (Actual Bodily Harm) assault.
“He has since been bailed until Wednesday 8th November pending further enquiries.”
Diouf, a former African Footballer of the Year, has been at Bolton for more than two years after moving from Liverpool in 2004.
