Turkish defender Olazan Alpay has signed for South Korean side Incheon United.
Alpay has failed to clinch a deal with a European club since his controversial departure from English Premiership team Aston Villa. The club and player parted company by mutual consent after he goaded England captain David Beckham during a Euro 2004 qualifier last October.
Alpay will now join K-League team Incheon, who formed just last year, and he points to the passion of the South Korean fans as the reason behind his decision.
“I came to South Korea because memories of South Koreans cheering for Turkey during the World Cup are deeply engraved in my heart,” he said.
“Leaving Aston Villa was something not only the team, but also I wanted.
“I played in the Premier League for three years but I left as I thought there was nothing more to give to the team.
“I came to South Korea because I wanted to play in a new place,” he added.
