Barcelona will make £60m available to spend on player transfers over the next three years, officials at the club have confirmed.

The Catalan club’s s economic vice president Ferran Soriano announced that financial assurance from local banks has been confirmed and the club will now be able to match the spending power of any of the world’s top teams.

This looks set to lead to a spending spree at the end of the season.

“Few clubs will come out in the summer with our capacity to buy,” said Soriano.

“The market is depressed and the price of a star player is decreasing.”

President Joan Laporta has restructured the financial workings at the Nou Camp since his election last summer and Barca could now spend between €30m and €50m in the close season.

However, Soriano revealed that top target Thierry Henry will almost certainly prove to beyond their reach.

“Arsenal are in a process of growth, they have undergone an economic restructuring and are now earning money and creating a new stadium which they want to invest in,” he added.

“I don’t believe that they will want to sell.”
