Bayern Munich equalled their own record for winning the Bundesliga title having played playing fewest games, when they wrapped up the title with a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.

The success, Bayern’s 18th league title, was confirmed when their closest challengers Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmundfailed to win.

Second-half goals from Giovane Elber and Claudio Pizarro, were enough to clinch the title with four games still to play, equalling therecord they set in 1973 for playing the fewest matches.

“I had to fight back tears because I didn’t think we would win the championship already today,” said coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Hitzfeld set a record for coaches with his fourth title in five seasons.
